218th Enhanced Separate Brigade
"Steadfast of purpose"

The 218th Enhanced Separate Brigade (eSB) is the South Carolina National Guard's workhorse. As the largest major subordinate command in the state, it stands ready to respond to state or national challenges with over 3,000 soldiers. After 9/11, the Brigade sprang into action in support of Task Force East. While providing command and control for this vital Homeland Defense Mission, the 218th ESB also supplied smaller units and individuals in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Noble Eagle. During the record hurricane season of 2005, the 218th ESB not only stood ready to protect property and lives in South Carolina but also provided relief support for victims of Hurricane Katrina and Rita. Currently, the 218th ESB is preparing to support the Southwest Border Mission domestically and Task Force Phoenix overseas. As it continues to simultaneously execute both state and federal missions, the Brigade remains true to its motto, "Steadfast of Purpose."
