Welcome to Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix VI. The mission of this almost 6,000-member team from 14 different nations is to mentor the 90,000 strong Afghanistan National Security Forces (Army and Police) to help them become a respected, sustainable, and ethical institution capable of maintaining a safe and secure environment for all of Afghanistan. This mission is one of the cornerstones of the Afghanistan Exit Strategy as outlined by President Bush. The Afghan National Army and prior CJTF Phoenixes made great progress. The Afghan National Army is the most respected institution in Afghanistan. Over 80% of their citizens feel safer than they have felt in the past. We are continuing that trend with the training of the Army and beginning the training of the Afghan National Police Force. Our Soldiers have the best in equipment and training possible so they can perform their mission effectively with the least amount of risk. Our training by First Army East prior to deployment was tough and realistic training based on complete Theater Immersion. It reinforced our philosophy of tough, skilled, and disciplined Soldiers along with highly qualified leaders. We trained as we will fight. Much of the mission is relationship building and helping the local communities through the Afghan National Security Force. The Afghan culture is over 3000 years old. We are not trying to change the people but help them reestablish past strengths and glories within their own cultural context. CJTF Phoenix VI members are proud to serve their nations, states, communities and families. Our Families are and will continue to be our strength and the purpose for this critical mission. |
