Mission First! Family Always!
"The family can exist without the National Guard. Our National Guard cannot exist
without its families!" -MG Paul Weaver
The Family Readiness Group: Who we are and what we provide.
The Family Readiness Group (FRG), or Network, is a unit-level program consisting
primarily of volunteers. The FRG is dedicated to helping Guard members and their
families in times of peace and mobilization. This is accomplished by holding meetings,
sending newsletters, e-mailing, and utilizing family “calling trees” to spread important
information. FRG programs provide opportunities for both learning and recreation.
These include Family Day Open House events, summer picnics, youth camps, holiday
meals, Army National Guard Family Team Building, and mobilization readiness classes.
You can volunteer and get involved with your readiness group. Call your unit or
the State Family Programs Coordinator at (803) 806-4200 or 1(888) 267-4489.
Tie a Yellow Ribbon:
Ever wonder why the yellow ribbon has become a symbol of welcoming home American
troops? Click here to read the story, and remember, please support your loved ones
by tying a yellow ribbon in front of your home and/or business.
Benefits of Participation in a FRG:
Belonging to a Family Readiness Group has numerous benefits. You get to know fellow
family members, what your soldier really does at drill, and a sense of belonging.
While the unit is at home station you will be involved in Family Day Events and
possibly have send off and welcome home from annual training events.
If your unit is deployed you will know a group of people that are experiencing the
same things that you are experiencing are there for you. You will get information
on what's going on first hand. You will have a "New Family" that you can meet with
and lean on for support. What a blessing all this can be!
We are here for you! Guard families are important to the security and well being
of our great nation. If there is anything you need during this time, please call
or contact a FRG director; even if you just need someone who will listen and understand
what you and your family are going through.
