    June 2005:


    MG Spears receives a check from Mr. Jim Rhodes of BellSouth. Employees of BellSouth donated $3,600 to purchase calling cards for every deploying National Guard person in South Carolina.


    Mr. Jim Rhodes of BellSouth presents a check for $3,600 to the 263rd Army Air and Missile Defense Command's Family Readiness Group. BellSouth employees donated money to purchase calling cards for deploying South Carolina National Guard personnel. The donation were received by MG Harry B. Burchstead, Jr., Commanding General of the 263rd AAMDC. (L-R) Mr. Joey R.     April 2005:

    Mr. James Zieche, district manager of Allied Waste Services, presented the S.C. National Guard Youth Challenge, and the S.C. Military History Foundation, each with a $2000.00 donation.


    March 2005:

    • Adjutant General Stan Spears swore in Colonel James Hammond and Major Jim Rhodes.
    • State Achievement Awards presented to BG O. Eugene Powell and Colonel Bo Mullis.
    • Major Buddy Sturgis was promoted to Lt. Colonel and transferred to the Museum Detachment as Commander of this new section of the S.C. Military Department.
    • Major Leon Lott recognized as the S.C. Sheriff of the Year by the S.C. Sheriff's Association.

    Feb 2005:

    Major John Scott filed bill #3580 in the S.C. House of Representatives on 16 February. The Bill requests that the S.C. General Assembly approve a State income tax deduction of $3,000.00 for volunteer members of the South Carolina Military Department who meet their yearly obligation.
        
         The Bill had 45 sponsors.

         The Bill passed in 2006.


    Jan 2005:

    JSD Provost Marshal, Major Leon Lott, was named a recipient of the Strom Thurmond Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement, by the United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina. U.S. Senator Lindsay Graham made the award presentation at a luncheon on 19 Jan, 2005 at the Ft. Jackson Officer's Club. Major Lott is the Sheriff of Richland County.
