Geographic Information Systems

The S.C. Army National Guard (SCARNG) Construction and Facilities Management Office (FMO-ENV) is home to the agency's GIS group.Exif_JPEG_PICTURE Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a computer system that is used to capture, store, map, and analyze spatial data layers. The S.C. Army National Guard (SCARNG) GIS program provides digital mapping and modeling, spatial analysis and database development, and acts as a geospatial decision support system for the agency. We support all directorates and the leadership that guides them, including the Joint Force Headquarters, the Joint Operations Center, Civil Support Team, range managers, statewide training sites and other troop unit needs throughout the state.

GIS Initiatives Include:soldiers_learning_GPS

  • Facilities Management: geospatial property inventory of infrastructure, master planning, energy management and conservation
  • Environmental Conservation and Compliance: tracking and analysis of environmental concerns, spill plan mapping, asbestos mapping, NEPA location tracking, cultural site accounting, natural resource management support, modeling installation encroachment
  • Emergency Management: operations support, emergency response & mitigation planning, Common Operating Picture support
  • Operations and Training: Range Complex Master Plans, training area & land navigation maps, troop stationing, unit drive-time analysis, military training planning
  • Strategic Planning: Army Guard economic impact analysis, force structure planning, geospatial decision support
  • Recruiting and Retention: demographic analysis, recruitment target market projections, soldier enlistment distributions
  • GIS Training: GIS software/map-making training for soldiers and units, GPS equipment training for military applications
