The mission of the 108th Public Affairs Detachment (PAD) is to provide direct public affairs support to units within the South Carolina Army National Guard.

On-the-Spot Coverage

The goal of the 108th PAD is to provide on-the spot coverage of the missions and training events of the South Carolina National Guard to the fullest extent possible. As our communicators are “Soldiers first,” the team members of the 108th PAD are always ready to go wherever the mission takes them.

46R - Public Affairs Broadcast Specialist

Army public affairs broadcast specialists are experts in creating, filming, reporting, hosting and editing news and video programs.

Helpful Skills:

  • Interest in English, journalism, communications, computers and photography
  • Ability to speak clearly in front of an audience
  • Detail-oriented
  • Can write clearly and concisely
  • Required ASVAB Score in General Technical (GT) must be a 107 or higher
  • Advanced Individual training is 12 weeks and 2 days at Fort Meade, Maryland

Skills you will learn at Advanced Individual Training:

  • Videopgraphy and video editing
  • Writing news, feature and sports copy for radio and television
  • Radio and television programming and production
  • Public speaking
  • Media relations

46Q - Public Affairs Spcialist Journalist

The Army public affairs specialist creates and assists with the administration of Army public affairs programs through news releases, news articles, Web-based material and photographs used in military and civilian news media.

Helpful Skills:

  • Interest in English, journalism, communications, computers and photography
  • Ability to speak clearly in front of an audience
  • Detail-oriented
  • Can write clearly and concisely
  • Required ASVAB Score in General Technical (GT) must be a 107 or higher
  • Advanced Individual training is 11 weeks at Fort Meade, Maryland

Skills you will learn at Advanced Individual Training:

  • News, feature and sports writing and research
  • Newspaper design and production
  • Interviewing techniques
  • Photojournalism
  • Public speaking
  • Media relations
