This weekend promises to bring us the first real feeling of autumn, with many of you participating in Halloween activities tonight and predictions of colder temperatures. I must also mention Football! Barbara and I are looking forward to cheering on the Gamecocks tomorrow, joined by the TAG from Tennessee. It should be a very festive afternoon.
With this in mind I wanted to take this time to wish you all a wonderful weekend, but to also encourage safety.
There will be many little ones knocking on doors tonight, hoping for treats instead of tricks. Use caution and pay attention at cross walks and along roads.
If celebrating the Gamecocks or attending any festivities where there may be alcohol involved, always have a designated driver. Tragically, we lost one of our S.C. Army National Guard heroes this week, Spc. Vincent Thomas, who was killed by the recklessness of a drunk driver. Spc Thomas served in the 178th Engineers and I deployed with him in 2007. I personally feel this loss of a great Soldier who did so much in service to his state and nation. As a gesture to honor his service, he was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant yesterday. Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
You and your families are our most precious resource. We want you to be safe. Enjoy your weekend, treasure these happy times with your little ones and families, and be mindful of any risks or threats.
Barbara and I hope to see some of you at Williams Brice stadium tomorrow- Go Gamecocks- beat Tennessee!
